philip high
composer / guitaristComposer and contemporary finger-style guitarist, Philip High, brings together a wide-ranging musical background into an imaginative mix of Jazz, World, Electronic, and Pop influences. The music is a unique fusion that gently grabs your attention and leads you through an adventurous landscape of mellow grooves, colorful harmonies, and exotic textures.
His 2003 album, “HighperTrybe“, is a musical exploration that includes percussion and elements of Electronica, while featuring the layered acoustic-electric guitar arrangements and improvisations that characterize his live performances. The music is sometimes playful, sometimes meditative, but always inventive and highly personal.
Selections from “Highpertrybe” provided a major portion of the soundtrack for the independent documentary “Searching For Wolf Boy: The Art of Jimmy Gordon” by filmmaker Patrick McNeese, which was awarded a Director’s Citation Award at the Black Maria Film and Video Festival in 2005.
His 2016 release, “Winter Passages,” is an all electronic collection of original pieces that evoke seasonal transitions from autumn, through winter, and into spring.
